Travel

One minibus and one 9-seater will be used to take most of the group up. We will be stopping en route for a break, and expect to arrive at the hotel by 2.30pm.

Saturday timetable

The minibuses leave at 10.45am (collection points are either Walthamstow Central station - please note the Victoria Line is not expected to be running that weekend - or Beacontree Avenue corner of Forest Road) on Saturday 13th, stopping en route for lunch, and arriving between 2.30 and 3pm.  I'm told the hotel is about 30 minutes' drive from Wirksworth, where we're performing.  The minibus group will therefore need to check-in and leave almost immediately.

Independent travellers: the address of the church is St Mary, Church Close, Wirksworth, Derbyshire, DE4 4DP. Parking is apparently limited. See also maps below.

Fishpond choir say the church is clearly visible, quite a large church for the size of town, and the Red Lion pub, where the buffet will be laid on prior to the concert, and drinks after, is about 100 meters away on the market square.

Fishpond rehearsal: 3:00 to 4:00

Tea on arrival at 3.45.

Forest rehearsal: 4:00 to 5:00

Buffet: 5:00 to 6:30

Return to venue: 6:30 ish

Concert: 7:30 (we'll probably be on second this time)

Back to the Red Lion pub (marked on map): 10:00-ish (there'll be a separate room with bar)

St Marys Church

St Mary’s Church is situated in a large churchyard behind the shops on the East side of the main road through Wirksworth.

Access to the church is via Church Lane, a short cul-de-sac off Coldwell Street, or via the pedestrian access through St Mary’s Gate.

The church does not have a car park, but there is a small amount of parking available nearby in the Market Square, and parking is available on some local streets. However, overall parking in Wirksworth is limited.

As the church is not actually on a road, it does not appear to have a postcode. However, for SatNav purposes, or for getting directions on the internet, the following postcode points to the centre of Wirksworth:

For those of you travelling up under your own steam, I have advised the hotel we'll be arriving some time between 2.30 and 3pm on the Saturday (with the exception of Brian and Marian who are going up on the Friday). Breakfast on Sunday is included.

Concert dress - usual

Changing facilities - hardly any. There is a small vestry which we can use, and I'm told the toilet is quite roomy, so you may want to take the opportunity to change into concert dress before leaving for Wirksworth.

Free tickets are being provided for the friends coming up with us:

Pip's husband, Graham Irving, Stirling Grayston, Ted Carder, Monica Janowski's husband, Ron Atkinson, David Puddifoot, and Lisel's Phil.
